1946Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon, February 16, for William E. Orvis, Spencer resident since 1913, who died last Wednesday afternoon following a heart attack
Services were conducted at the Hinterberg Funeral Home with the Rev. G.D. Serrill officiating
Interment was made in North Lawn Memorial Park
Pallbearers; Andrew Reno, Olin Watt, Jesse Fishburn, Eugene Patterson, Elmer Oxley and LaVerne Wright
William Elmer Orvis, son of Emory Pierre and Caroline Putnam Orvis, was born on a farm near Manchester, Iowa, November 28, 1865.
At the time of his death he was a little more than 80 years of age
He grew to manhood in the Manchester community and then went to Perry. Later he moved to Dana, where he operated a meat market and from there to Gilmore City where he continued in the same business
He was married January 2, 1892 to Mabel Guernsey, their marriage taking place at Gilmore City. Following their marriage they live for some time at Bancroft and in Manchester before coming to Spencer
They became the parents of four children. A son, Glenn, died in infancy
Survivors include, Mrs. Orvis, a son and two daughters. The son is Alton Garmon Orvis. The daughters are Mrs. Alice Lucille Fellers and Mrs. Ruby Mae Lockey. They all live in Spencer
There are also seven grandchildren and three great grandchildren. A brother, Frank Orvis, who lives in Pine City, Minnesota visited here at Christmas time
