May 11, 2000Funeral services for Johnie Jay Ogden, 83, of Gillette Grove were held Monday, May 15, 2000, 1:30 p.m. at the Warner Chapel in Spencer. The Revs. Tonna Parsons and Darlene Sickelka officiated.
Interment will be at North Lawn Cemetery in Spencer.
Casket Bearers; Lowell Wade, Wayne Markley, Billy Goyne, Pat Gibson, Ricky Goyne, Bobby Gibson, Robert Firtzpatrick, Joel Parsons.
Johnie Jay Ogden, the son of John Jay and Eidith Ladue Ogden, was born September 15, 1915 in Rochester, Pennsylvania. His childhood years were spent in Denver, Colorado, where he attended Dora Reynolds School at the Colorado State Home for Dependent and Neglected Children.
Following his schooling, he entered the military and served with the Army Medical Corp and Army Air Corporation, which later became the Air Force, for 22 years, retiring in 1964. While in the military, he designed the Field Mess Unit. He received his commendation medal five years ago for his innovative design of the Field Mess Unit, which is still in use today.
Following his military career, Mr. Ogden lived in Alaska and Floria, where he repaired travel trailers and worked in factories for several years.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one son Kelsey John in infancy and two grandchildren in infancy.
Survivors include his wife Ruth of Gillette Grove; ten children; Gloria and her husband, Robert Fitzpatrick of Milford, Eugene and his wife, Debra Pate of Midlothian, Virginia, Dona Loy Ogden Walters of Ogden, Utah, Jean and her husband, Joe Naris of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Johnie and his wife, Linda Ogden of Meade, Kansas, Johna Cain of Chandler, Texas, Annette Lindsey of Ogden, Utal, L.J. and his wife, Nancy Ogden of Houston, Texas, Donnie Ogden of New York, Debra Ogden of Dallas, Texas; 33 grandchildren; 48 great grandchildren; 10 great great grandchildren; one brother, James F. Oleson and his wife, Becky of Gunnison, Colorado; other relatives and friends.
Warner Funeral Home of Spencer in charge of arrangements.
