Funeral services were held Friday, Feb. 25 at 2:00 p.m. at the Congregational Church in Peterson, for Lena Grapenthin. Rev. Allen Dumke officiated.

Pallbearers were Elgar Ericksen, Keith Klatt, Wayne Rowe, Art Lundt, Dale Klatt and John Grapenthin. Hymns "The Lord's Prayer" and "The Old Rugged Cross" were sung by Mrs. Charles Plagman, accompanied by Mrs. Melvin Fastenow. Interment was at Oakland Cemetery at Peterson, with the Baumgarten Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Lena Clara Grapenthin was born Feb. 2, 1883 near Peterson, Ia., to William and Amelia Renn Klatt and died at Cherokee, Ia., Feb. 22, 1972. She was 89 years and 20 days of age.

Her entire lifetime was spent in the Peterson area where she attended the rural schools near her childhood home.

On December 23, 1908 she was united in marriage to August F. Grapenthin at her parents home. They became the parents of five children and were privileged to celebrate their golden wedding anniversary in December of 1958.

Preceding her in death were her parents, and infant son in 1927, two other sons, Lester in 1937 and Elmer in 1939, three brothers and three sisters.

Left to cherish her memory are her husband, August, two daughters, Eleanor (Mrs. Tompkins Allison) Cherokee, and Opal (Mrs. Willard Kracht) of Peterson, two grandchildren, one brother, Emil Klatt, and one sister, Elsie Yeager, both of Spencer; nieces and nephews, other relatives and many friends.
