Last Rites Held For Mrs. Davis

Funeral services were held at the Methodist Church here Thursday for Mrs. Hiram Davis, who died at the home in Peterson, Monday of last week. Rev. Wm. W. Ross was in charge of the service and music was furnished by Mrs. Ted Feekes and Mrs. Jim Brown with Mrs. Duane Johnson as accompanist. Pall bearers were Loren Reed, Byron Reed, George Reed, Dale Toland, Wayne Baker and Ralph Gilbert. Burial was in the family lot at Oakland cemetery here.

Carrie Mason Colby was born in Libertyville, Illinois, February 1, 1870, daughter of Gilbert Motler Colby and Nelly Adaline Mason Colby. When still a small girl her family moved from Illinois to Iowa and settled in Sac County near Odebolt. In 1882, they moved to Peterson which has been her residence until her death May 9, 1949.

She was married to Hiram E. Davis, June 21, 1916. Her husband survives her. Preceeding her in death were her father and mother, also her sisters, Nettie M. Clark of Everett, Washington, Alma V. Kenderine of Dickens, Ia., and her brother, Edwin Wallace Colby of Peterson. Her oldest sister, Maud Agnes Motz and her younger sisters, Mae C. Becket survive her.

Mrs. Davis joined the Methodist church when seventeen years of age and for sixty two years has been active and faithful member working wherever she was needed. She spent a number of years teaching in public schools of Iowa and Minnesota. Later she worked as book-keeper in the bank and several other places in Peterson.

She was an active worker in the Women's Christian Temperance Union, a loyal friend, neighbor whose influence and devotion will be greatly missed in this vicinity.
