Mrs. Olhausen Called By Death

Funeral services were held Monday for Mrs. Mary Olhausen, who died at Hartley, February 26th, at the Methodist church in Sutherland. Services were conducted by Rev. W.L. Rowse under the direction of the Baumgarten Funeral Home. Mary Jordan sang accompanied by Jean Jordern. Pallbearers were Harry Hill, Leroy Salzkorn, Everette Olhausen, Myron Hill, Merrill Hill and Chas. Sandrie. Interment was in Oakland cemetery in Peterson.

Mrs. William Olhausen, nee Mary Elizabeth Hill, the daughter of Willis and Adeline Knowels Hill, was born August 10, 1877 at Hillsdale, Michigan. She passed into eternal rest at the McCrosky Nursing Home at Hartley, Iowa, on February 28, 1955, having reached the age of 77 years, 6 months and 16 days.

She came to Iowa as a small child and lived in the Sutherland and Hartley communities all her life. She attended the public school in Cherokee County south of Sutherland. She had been baptized in the Cheerful Workers Society while in the Sutherland community.

On February 9, 1898 she was married to William Olhausen, the wedding taking place at Sutherland. To them were born 7 children, two of whom died in infancy. Her husband also preceded her in death in February of 1940.

Mrs. Olhausen had been in ill health for several years and for the past two years had been in Nursing homes.

Survivors include five children, Mrs. Eva Brugman of Sioux Rapids, Fred of Royal, Luella (Mrs. Arnold Wiese) and William, all of Hartley, 23 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, 1 sister, Mrs. Lois Jenkins of Washta, several nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
