November 14, 2003Shirley Carpenter, 78 of Cedar Rapids, formerly of Spencer, passed away on Friday, November 14, 2003 at St Lukes Hospital in Ceday Rapids after a brief illness.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, November 20, at the Warner Chapel in Spencer. Rev. Ray Shepard will officiate the 1 p.m.
Burial will be in North Lawn Memorial Park in Spencer.
Shirley Carpenter, the daughter of Emory and Nellie Blackmer Harris and her stepmother, Violet Cradduck Harris. She married Paul L. Carpenter on October 25, 1942 in Ponca, Nebraska.
Shirley was a food service supervisor at St. Luke's Hospital and retired from there after 23 years of service.
She was a member of the Bible Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by a son, Barry and seven brothers and sisters.
Shirley is survived by her husband, Paul Carpenter of Cedar Rapids; two sons; Robert Carpenter and Mark Carpenter and his wife, Cindy all of Cedar Rapids; one daughter Glenda Gustin and her husband, Duane of Dickens; three brothers, Donald Harris and his wife, Bonnie of Arnolds Park, Marvin Harris and his wife, Ardyce of Spencer and William and his wife, Vange of Spencer; six grandchildren; three step grandchildren; one step great grandchild; three sisters in law; Beth, Joyce and Helen Harris; and one brother in law, Max Orr.
