Ernest 'Ernie' Carlson, 77, Webb, died Monday February 4, 2002 at the V.A. Hospital, in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m., Thursday, January 7 at the Bethany Lutheran Church, Spencer with Rev. Tom Dettmer officiating.

Casket Bearers; Allen Forsberg, Rich Hogrefe, Ron Johnson, James Peterson, Mike Johannes and Jeff Mohr.

Interment will be at the North Lawn Memorial Park, Spencer.

Ernest Vernon Carlson, the son of Erick and Esther Carlson, was born October 26, 1924 in Marathon. Ernie was raised in the Marathon area where he attended and graduated from high school.

Ernie married Phyllis Berg on September 20, 1947, in the Little Brown Church. To this union, three children were born; Carolyn, Diann, and Barb.

Following his wife's death, Ernie married Dolores Christensen on August 2, 1958. To this marriage, Dolores brought three children; Nancy, Betty, and Roger. In 1959, they moved to Webb, where they made their home. In 1966, a daughter Patti, was born to this union.

Ernie was a self-employed farmer, and after retirement worked part-time at the Clay County Fair.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, wife, one son and one brother.

Ernie is survived by his daughters: Carolyn Forsberg and her husband, Allen; Diann Peterson and her husband, James; Barb Hogrefe and her husband, Rich, all of Albert City; Patti Mohr and her husband, Jeff, of Webb; Nancy Johannes and her husband of Columbus, Nebraska; Betty Johnson and her husband, Ron, of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; 21 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; one brother, Eldon Carlson of Spirit Lake; one sister, Vivian Smith of Dickens; and other relatives and friends.

Warner Funeral Home of Spencer in charge of arrangements.
