J. Raveling Passes Away Saturday

Funeral services were held at the Congregational church, Monday afternoon for Jacob Raveling, who passed away at the home of his son, Peter Raveling, Saturday afternoon at one-thirty o'clock. Death came at the age of 81 years, and was not unexpected as Mr. Raveling had been quite ill for several weeks.

Obituary

Jacob Raveling, son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Raveling, was born on August 20, 1861, at Vermore, Aus Lur, Germany and died at the age of 81 years 9 months and 3 days. He was of a family of ten children, 2 sisters and 8 brothers. While in Germany he was confirmed. At the age 25 he came to the United States with his wife and two children to Plymouth county, Iowa. He resided on a farm there for 11 years before coming to Clay County, where he spent most of his life.

He was united in marriage to Lena Fraese in 1880 and to this union ten children, three daughters and seven sons, one dying in infancy, were born. His wife preceded him in death on February 2, 1916. He remarried again in 1918.

After an illness of several weeks Mr. Raveling passed away on May 23, 1942 at 1:30 p.m. at the home of his son, Peter.

Mr. Raveling is survived by his three daughters, Mrs. Carl Larson of Willmar, Minnesota, Mrs. George Johnson of Lamberton, Minnesota, and Mrs. John Larson of Terril, and six sons, Henry, George, Sever of Lake Park, Peter, Ben and Clarence. Three brothers, Peter of Remsen, George of Remsen and William of Lamberton, Minnesota, forty-three grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at the Congregational church, the service being in charge by the Rev. James Ball, pastor of the church.

The music was furnished by a male quartet composed of Ralph Gilbert, Ivan Reed, Dr. Loucks and Paul J. Simons.

Pall bearers were his six sons, Henry, George, Sever, Peter, Ben and Clarence. Interment was made in the Peterson cemetery beside his wife.
