January 26, 1995Leland Carpenter, 82, Spencer died Thursday, January 26, 1995 at Shannon Medical Center, San Angelo, Texas.
Funeral services will be held today at 10:30 a.m. at First English Lutheran Church, Spencer with the Rev. Walter Quandt officiating.
Casket Bearers: Scott Carpenter, Jeff Carpenter, Todd Walter, Cameron Carpenter, Christopher Carpenter, Bradley Carpenter, Nick Nelson.
Honorary Casket Bearers; Dwight Hatfield, Darrel Scharnberg, Levi Reidinger and Ellsworth Hanson.
Burial will be in North Lawn Memorial Park, Spencer.
Leland Carver Carpenter, son of Clyde and Anna Ellyson Carpenter was born May 21, 1912 in Madison , Missouri. He received his early education in Spencer.
He married Dorothy Gruchow on December 8, 1935 in Spencer. Following their marriage, the couple farmed in the Spencer and Terril areas before buying and moving to their own farm west of Spencer. While on the farm, he also ran his own corn shelling and trucking business. After they sold the farm in 1971 and moved into Spencer, he continued in the trucking business until he retired in 1990.
He was a member of the First English Lutheran Church and the Golden K Kiwanis.
Mr. Carpenter was preceded in death by his parents , his wife and one brother.
He is survived by three sons, Gary Carpenter and his wife, Rosemary of San Angelo, Texas, Larry Carpenter and his wife, Cindy of Spencer; one daughter, Linda Nelson and her husband Roger of Worthington, Minnesota; 15 grandchildren; one brother, Ted Carpenter of Milford and one sister, Dorothy Fisk of San Bernardino, California.
Baumgarten Funeral Home of Spencer in charge of arrangements.
