Services for Verne William Brinkley, 76, Spencer, will be Thursday at 1 p.m. in Grace United Methodist Church in Spencer. The Rev. Nathaniel Perry will officiate.

Casket Bearers; Donald Durst, Frank Parks, Charlie Quist, Louie Holmberg, Jim Baschke, Gene Kehoe and Glenn Durst.

Burial will be in North Lawn Cemetery, Spencer.

Mr. Brinkley died Sunday at the Spencer Municipal Hospital.

He was born July 22, 1913, in Dickens to Ebb and Eva Brown Brinkley. His childhood years were spent in Logan Township and it was in the country schools that he received his early education. He was baptized on November 6, 1927 in the Dickens United Methodist Church.

He married Bessie Harris in Langdon on May 29, 1950. Throughout their marriage, they lived in Clay County, farming for many years in the Spencer and Langdon area, retiring in 1978. In addition to farming, Mr. Brinkley also worked part time as a mechanic for John Deere.

Mr. Brinkley was a member of the Langdon United Methodist Church and was involved in many community activities. He was a member of the Eagles Club, Farm Bureau and the Meadow Ramblers.

He was preceded in death by his wife; four daughters and their husbands; Katherine and Larry Heddinger of Houston, Texas, Nancy and Tim Marsh of Windom, Minnesota, Patsy and Keith Jacobs of Sanborn and Jenny Brinkley of Spencer; six grandchildren; two brothers, Kenneth of Spencer and Roy of San Ysidro, California; and seven sisters; Lela Swanson, Lorretta Iverson, Ruth Fitzloff and Margaret Johanson all of Spencer, Helen Hoffman, Virginia Behrends and Mary Jane Schoning all of Milford.

Warner Funeral Home of Spencer is in charge of arrangements.
