October 8, 1999Charlie Boom, 80, died Friday, October 8, 1999 in Mesa, Arizona. Mr. Boom was a former resident of Spencer, retiring in 1975.
A Celebration of Life memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, November 20, at Hope Reformed Church in Spencer with the Rev. Perry DeGroot officiating.
Mr. Boom's remains have already been interred at North Lawn Memorial Park in Spencer. A graveside American Legion Honor Guard will be held. A reception at the church will follow the services at the cemetery.
Mr. Boom was born January 2. 1919 in Little Rock, Iowa. He was a decorated veteran of World War II with the 34th Red Bull Infantry. He retired as a mail carrier in Spencer in 1975.
He married Julie Setzer on October 6, 1982 in Butte, Arizona.
He was preceded in death by two former wives, his parents, two brothers and two sisters.
One stepson, Steven Adams was an early Vietnam War Missing in Action designee, having been shot down on October 18, 1966.
He is survived by his wife, his daughters, Barbara Munsterman of Urbandale, Shirley Helkey of Frankston, Texas; stepson, Dr. Bruce Adams of Laramie, Wyoming; step daughters; Cindy Bernard of Gillette, Wyoming and Pam King of Butte, Wyoming; 11 grandchildren and one great grandchild.
