Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., January 2, 2001 for Norval J. Binder, 82, of Spencer at Grace United Methodist Church in Spencer. The Rev. Darlene Sickelka will officiate

Burial will be at North Lawn Memorial Park in Spencer

A Military Flag presentation will be done by the VFW Clay County Post #3159 of Spencer

Casket Bearers; Chad Binder, Ross Binder, Jason Binder, Zachary Binder, Todd Binder, Adam Binder, Kelsey Binder, Grant Binder, Dana Binder, April Binder, Damon Binder

Mr. Binder died Friday, December 29, 2000 at the St Luke Lutheran Home in Spencer

Norval Binder, the son of Jacob and Mary Koeliker Binder, was born October 31, 1918 in Everett, Kansas. His early years were spent in Kansas, before moving to Iowa in 1938

Mr. Binder married Orpha Rohik on March 24, 1944 in Alta. Following their marriage.

He was called to serve his country with the U.S. Army in World War II.

Following his discharge in 1946, he began farming near Rossie, where the couple lived for many years

Throughout his life, Mr. Binder was active in several community activities, including the school boaed, Rossie United Church of Christ, 4-H leader, board member of Clay Mutual Insurance, Clay County Rural Water and Clay County Cattlemen, the Masonic Lodge and the VFW.

After retirement, the couple move to Spencer in 1997

He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister; and two brothers

He is survived by his wife, Orpha of Spencer; four sons and their wives; David and Kathy Binder of Sioux City; Steven and Mary Cay Binder of Seattle, Washington; Randy and Dianne Binder of Royal; and Brenton Binder of Grand Rapids, Michigan; 11 grandchildren; one great grandchild; five step grandchildren; one sister, Esther and her husband, Paul Stine of Sherman Oaks, California; one brother, Glen and his wife Julie Binder of Des Moines; many nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends

Warner Funeral Home of Spencer is in charge of arrangements
