Services for Wilbur Thomas Bittinger, 86, were held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Trinity United Methodist Church, Webb, with the Rev. Bob Cumings officiating.

Burial was held in North Lawn Cemetery, Spencer.

Pallbearers; Bernard Hoffman, Darrell Hart, Glenn Hart, Burrel Matthews, Rodney Bovee and Delbert Williams.

Mr. Bittinger died Monday, November 30, at St. Luke's Lutheran Home, Spencer.

The son of Hanson and Annie (Thomas) Bittinger, he was born August 7, 1895 at Ashton, Illinois. He moved with his parents to a farm northwest of Marathon in 1900, attended school in Webb and graduated from high school in Marathon.

He later attended Iowa State University, before entering the military service during World War I.

He married Effie Hovinga on January 19, 1921 and they farmed in the Webb area their entire married life. She died in May 1950 and he married Laura Pinney in June 1955 at Clara City, Minnesota.

He was a 50 year member of Perfection Lodge 651 A.F. and A.M., the Sioux City Consistory, Abu Bekr Shine, Marathon Chapter 459 Order of Eastern Star and White Shrine of Jerusalem 49.

He served as assessor of Garfield Township served 19 years on the Webb school board, was Sunday School Superintendent for many years, Garfield Township clerk, director and vice president of Citizens State Bank and served on the Clay County Board of Review and Board of Supervisors.

He is survived by one son, Morton Bittinger, Fort Collins, Colorado; one daughter, Mrs. Estel (Thelma), Hubbard; 10 grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one daughter, Esther Smith, one grandson and two brothers.

Warner Funeral Home of Spencer was in charge of arrangements.
