January 11, 1982Funeral services for August Bergquist, 74, of Spirit Lake, will be held Thursday, January 14, afternoon at 1:30 p.m. in the Warner Chapel. Pastor Jerry A. Olson will officiate.
Burial in the Northlawn Cemetery, Spencer.
Casket Bearers; Sam Chapman, Paul Chapman, Dave Chapman, Dan Chapman, Mike Workman, Tom Howe.
Honorary Bearers; Harry Bryan, Howard Tonsfeldt, David Chosen, Wayne Moerller, Reed Potter, Michael Chosen and John Parsons.
The son of August and Nellie (Nelson) Bergquist, Bergquist was born August 16, 1907 in Akron. They moved to Mitchell, South Dakota, when he was young and he received his education in that community.
He married Nelle Jean Wade on October 27, 1946 in Spencer and they farmed for a few years before moving to Spencer in 1954. He was involved in the painting and decorating business for a number of years before becoming head custodian in the Spencer School System.
After his retirement in 1970, they moved to the Lakes Region, but he continued to work at the Spirit Lake High School as custodian until 1975.
Bergquist was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Spencer.
He died Monday, January 11, at the Dickinson County Memorial Hospital in Spirit Lake.
Bergquist was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Vernon Gail Bergquist; and two brothers, Ralph and Eugene.
Survivors include his wife, Nelle Jean of Spirit Lakw; one son, Tom Nebel of Brainerd, Minnesota; one daughter Rita Bergquist of Spirit Lake; two grand daughters; two brothers, Ted Bergquist of Sioux City; and one sister, Mrs. Esther Bates of Mitchell.
Warner Funeral Home of Spencer was in charge of arrangements.
