Frank Huss

1958Frank Huss was born on a farm south of Dubuque on August 20, 1864, the son of John and Mary Huss, who had emigrated to this county from Luxembourg. He grew to manhood there.
On November 20, 1891, he was united in marriage to a former schoolmate, Mary Gillespie. They moved to O'Brien County in 1892 where they purchased a farm and lived six and one half miles west and three fourths south of Royal. In 1897 they moved to Everly where Mr. Huss was in the stock buying business. In 1898 they moved to a farm he purchase two miles west and on fourth of Royal and they farmed there until his retirement in 1925.
They moved to Colorado Springs, Colorado because of the health of a daughter and resided there until April of 1932
Mr. and Mrs. Huss were the parents of eight children; Mrs. J.B. (Nellie) Ihry, Edward Huss, Mrs. John (Gertie) Streufert, Mrs. A.J. (Laura) Deardorff, Elmer Huss, Mrs. Carroll (Mabel) Baysinger and Mrs. Henry (Everlyn) Berberich, all of Royal and Raphael Huss of Everly
His wife, Mary, died in 1935 and for five years, Mr. Huss made his home with his children. He had 25 grandchildren and 53 great grandchildren
Funeral services for Mr. Huss were in St. Louis Catholic Church in Royal, Saturday, December 28 with Father Victor Kollasch officiating
Burial was in Riverside Cemetery
Pallbearers were grandsons; Wayne Streufert, Gerald Huss, Charles Huss, Virgil Deardorff, Jack Ihry, and John Berberich
Those attending the funeral from a distance were Ben Huss of LaMotte, Margaret and Frank McMenimen of Dougherty, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Huss, Mr. and Mrs. Nick Huss and Vernon and Mrs. John Evans of Del Rapids, South Dakota, George and Cletus Miller of Remsen and Eddie Miller of LeMars and Mr. and Mrs. Earl Gillespie of Minneapolis, Minnesota
Mr. and Mrs. Huss were pioneer residents of this community, coming here before Royal was started. Mr. Huss was a successful farmer, interested in the community, being an officer of the Telephone Company, the Farmers Elevator and the Home State Bank. He also served as a school director in his district for many years
