Joseph Oliver Landsness was born in Sioux Rapids, December 10, 1877 and died Februay 10, 1958. He was the son of Ludvig and Grethe Landsness.

He is survived by his widow, Bertha (Smith) Landsness and two children, Kenneth of Sac City and Marjorie (Mrs. George Sterba of Chicago) A son, Donald who preceded him in death was a casualty of World War II in 1943.

Surviving brothers and sisters are Levi, Sioux Rapids; Lillie Netterstad, Des Moines; and Henry, Storm Lake; six grandchildren and numerous other relatives.

He lived 68 continuous years on the some farm in Lee Township. It is interesting to note that he resided in the same house for 76 years, as it was built by his father and moved to the present location when the farm was bought. He was educated in the rural schools and in a Des Moines Commercial College.

He has been a regular attendant of the First Methodist Church in Sioux Rapids for many years. He was active in many civic and farm organizations; served as Lee Township Clerk for 40 years, county farm bureau president for four years and active in various committees working for the interest of his community. this outstanding farmer, stockman and public spirited citizen will be missed by his many relatives and friends.

Burial was in Lone Tree Cemetery with the Henry Funeral Home in charge.

Pallbearers: Edwin Edwardson, Franklin Halverson, Floyd Jacobson, Kenneth Stanzel, Howard Beck and Edward Vail.

Mr. Landsness died early Sunday morning at his farm home from a heart attack. He had been in considerably good health and had been a visitor in town on Saturday prior to his death.

Mr. Landsness represented Buena Vista County in the 52nd and 53rd General Assembly as a State Representative from the years of 1947 to 1961.
