Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, March 20 at Warner Chapel, Spencer with the Revs. Tom Tassell and Ray Shepard officiating
Casket Bearers: Gary Taylor, Tom Thomas, John Thomas, Michael Booth, Dennis Taylor, Timothy Taylor, Jane Nelson, Susan Thomas, James Thomas and Patrick Booth
Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery, Spencer
Mildred Pauline McCarty, the daughter of John August and Anna Josephine (Lindell) Engstrom was born Mary 29, 1902 in Luther. Her family moved to Boone when she was a young child and it was in Boone that she received her education
Mildred married Harry McCarty on March 17, 1921 in Wisconsin. Following their marriage, they lived in Boone for a short time before moving to Cylon, Wisconsin, where they operated a dairy farm. They then moved to Forest Lake, Minnesota and Springfield, Missouri, where Mildred did alterations for a men's clothing store. The couple moved to Spencer in 1941, where she worked Davies Department Store. For several years, they lived in Pocahontas and operated McCarty's Cafe before returning to Spencer
Following her husband's death, Mildred moved to Boone to care for her mother and worked for the Eastern Star Nursing Home. They later moved back to Spencer.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Spencer and the Royal Neighbor's Lodge. Mildred was a talented seamstress, along with painting, quilting and tatting. She also enjoyed gardening.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a son, Raymond (Alf) McCarty; a daughter, Marilyn Booth; a grandson, Rob Thomas; and two brothers, Richard Wilson and Lennert Engstrom
Mildred is survived by two daughters, Dorothy Taylor and her husband, Chester of Spencer and Harriet Thomas of Humboldt, 10 grandchildren, 17 great-granchildren and a brother, Milo Engstrom and his wife, Ada of Prairie DuChien, Wisconsin
The Warner Funeral Home of Spencer was in charge of arrangements
