James Peter Lorenz, 74, Spencer, died Saturday, March 13, 1999 at the Spencer Municipal Hospital

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. today at Warner Chapel, Spencer, with the Rev. David Doraisingh officiating

Casket Bearers: Don Harleman, Dan McEntee, Lee Seaman, Bob Gould, Brad Hoffman and Kim Galbraith

Burial will be at Riveside Cemetery, Spencer

James Peter Lorenz, the son of John and Lillie (Ostrom) Lorenz was born January 30, 1925 on the family farm four miles east of Spencer. The farm has been in the family since 1881, Jim and his mother were born in the same bedroom of the farmhouse that Jim's son, David now owns

He attended grade school at the country school where his mother attended and his two sisters taught. He graduated from Dickens High School in 1942

Mr Lorenz enlisted in the U.S. Army in March of 1943 and served with Engineer Corp four years, one and a half years in Europe. While in the Army, he received the American Theater Service Medal, the European African Middle Eastern Theater Service Medal, and the Good Conduct Medal. He was honor ably discharged in April of 1946 and returned to Spencer

On June 20, 1948, he married Wadena Walker in Spencer. Following their marriage, the couple farmed east of Spencer for 30 years. Mr. Lorenz then managed the Iowa State Liquor Store for nine years before retiring and moving to Spencer. He worked part-time at the Diamond Vogel Paint Store for four years.

While living in the area, Mr. Lorenz was a member of the Dickens United Methodist Church, the Moose Lodge and the Dickens American Legion for 50 years. He enjoyed sports, gardening and his wildlife habitat. These activities gave him many hours of relaxation and enjoyment

Mr Lorenz was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Mary, two infant sisters and tow brothers, George and Ted

He is survived by his wife, Wadena of Spencer, two daughters, Julia Mouw of Minneapolis, Minnesota and Janna Mugge and her husband, John of Spencer, one son, David Lorenz and his wife Lora of Spencer, eight grandchildren, one great-grandson, one brother, Lee Lorenz and his wife Gertrude of Wahpeton, one sister, Ruth Hansen and her husband Leonard of Spencer and one sister-in-law Lil Lorenzen of Spencer

Warner Funeral Home of Spencer was in charge of arrangements
