Ervin Ficken, 78, Spencer, died Wednesday, March 3, 1999, of Parkinson's disease at Lutheran Health Care Hospice, Mesa, Arizona

Funeral services will he held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, March 9, at Warner Chapel, Spencer, with the Rev. Thomas VanTassell officiating

Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery, Spencer

Military rites will be conducted by Glen Pedersen, American Legion Post #1

Ervin Gerhart Ficken, the son of John and Christine (Lorenzen) Ficken, was born August 25, 1920 in Terril. He received his early education and graduated from Terril High School in 1938.

Following his schooling, Ervin entered the military and served with the U.S. Army Air Corp during world War II as a B-24 engine mechanic stationed in Italy from 1932 until his discharge in 1945

On March 6, 1946, he married Ivadell Leona Yule in Estherville. Throughout their marriage, they made their home in Spencer. For over 50 years, Ervin was an appliance serviceman. He also assisted his wife in her drapery business. His avocations were the Iowa Hawkeyes, bowling and bridge.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, a sister, Margaret Momsen, and two brothers, Harley and Oliver

Ervin is survived by a son Randy Ficken and his wife Theresa of Ames, a stepson, David Rose and his wife, Julie of Buffalo, Minnesota, three step grand children; two step great-grandchildren; and longtime companion, Lola Williams of Spencer and Mesa

Warner Funeral Home of Spencer was in charge of arrangements
