Richard Carlson, 81, Phoenix, Arizona, formerly of Spencer, died Friday, February 26, 1999 in Phoenix.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. today at Trinity Lutheran Church, Spencer, with the Rev. Peter Maisenbach officiating

Casket Bearers will Mr. Carlson's nephews

Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery, Spencer

Richard Gustaf Carlson was born September 28, 1917 in Clay County to Gust and Clara (Freeburg) Carlson. He was bapitized and confirmed in the Lincoln Lutheran Church

On May 12, 1940, Richard married Anna Laura Ball in McCallsburg. Following their marriage, they made their home in Pequot Lakes, Kerkhoven and Pine River, Minnesota; Royal and Spencer and also in Tempe and Phoeniz, Arizona, where they have lived for the past 18 years.

Mr. Carlson was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and three sisters

He is survived by his wife, a daughter, Diane and her husband, Eduardo Mada of Tempe, Arizona, a son, John Carlson and his wife, Judee of Crosslake, Minnesota, grandchildren, Nancy and Carrie Carlson of Bloomington, Minnesota, Lisa Blanco, Ed, David and Peter Mada of Phoenix, Tracy Hanson of Crosslake, Minnesota; 10 great-grandchildren and a sister, Louise Baker of Hudson, Ohio

Warner Funeral Home, Spencer was in charge of arrangements
