Dick George Beving, the son of George Antone and Alta (Winterboer) Beving, was born November 11, 1919. He attended rural schools and graduated from Okoboji Consolidated High School.

In January of 1942 he enlisted in the Navy and served in the Pacific until September of 1945.

In the summer of 1948, he met Beverly Kohn at a dance at the Roof Garden, and they were married on January 25 of 1949. To this union was born three girls, Jill, Nancy and Lois.

Dick farmed the family farm two miles west of Fostoria until they retired to the Wahpeton canal in 1988. Farming was his life, and although mainly a grain farmer, for some years, he had hogs and cattle. The family farm became a century farm in the summer of 2008.

In 1997, they moved to the Highlands Retirement Complex in Spencer. Dick will be remembered for his gentle, friendly and thoughtful nature, which made an impact and brightened the day of those who he came in contact with.

He served as school director and trustee for Summit Township. He also was a member of a local investment club OBS, and always enjoyed financial and farming trends. Dick proudly served on the Board of Directors of the Farmer's Savings Bank of Fostoria for 41 years, a bank co-founded by his grandfather, Dirk E. Beving.

Dick passed away at St. Luke Lutheran Home in Spencer on April 8, 2010 at the age of 90. He was preceded in death by his parents and daughter, Jill.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Beverly of Spencer; children, Nancy Duck and her husband, Gene of Oklahoma City, Lois Benson and her husband, Paul of Spencer; son-in-law, Gary Roach of Wayne, PA; grandchildren, Sarah Burkhart and her husband, Joshua of Oklahoma City and Dirk Benson of Spencer; other relatives and friends.
