Death of Mrs. Mary Ewing

Mrs. Mary Ewing died, at her home in this city, January 9th, after an illness extending over several weeks. The funeral was held Monday afternoon at the home, Rev. D.M. Yetter conducting the services, and burial was in Riverside cemetery, beside her husband, who preceded her to the spirit land less than a year ago. Mrs. Ewing was born in Scotland, July 15, 1836, and with relatives came to American when she was 12 years old. She was married to John Ewing July 13, 1855. To this union were born eleven children, eight of whom still survive. Mrs. Ewing, with her family came to Spencer about 15 years ago, and this city continued to be her home until death called her to the beautiful beyond. Last fall, when her son Richard returned to the Isle of Pines, Mrs. Ewing made her arrangements to accompany him, but sickness in her family prevented her doing so; however, she still cherished a longing to visit the beautiful southern isle, but this desire was never to be realized. She was an earnest, consistent Christian lady, who daily exemplified her profession, and had many friends wherever known.
