Theodore Gordon Martin, the son of Gordon Byron and Annie Margaret Runge Martin, was born September 30, 1900 in Royal, IA. At the age of 9, his parents moved to Carpenter, South Dakota for 1 year. Upon returning to Iowa, they moved to a farm south of Royal, where he attended Yankee School and farmed with his father.

Theodore married Elsie May Newby on January 10, 1923 at the old Methodist Parsonage in Spencer, Iowa. His folks moved to Peterson and Ted & Elsie continued living on the farm until 1947, when they moved to Royal. Ted worked at Standard Oil Station for five and a half years. He also did carpenter work with different businesses, helped several farmers with farm work and worked at Garms Lumber Co. for 14 years. He was a member of Royal United Methodist Church, the Royal Golden Agers, Modern Woodman of America Lodge, the Eagle's Lodge and was a 50 year member of the Odd Fellows Lodge until they closed.

Mr. Martin passed away at the Longhouse Residence on Wednesday, May 9, 1990 at the age of 89. He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant brother; 1 sister, Mildred Struve and 1 nephew, Howard Struve.

Mr. Martin is survived by his wife, Elsie; 1 sister, Neola Strang of Spencer; one nephew, Gordon Struve and his wife, Elaine and their family; other relatives and friends.

Interment in Riverside cemetery
