Henry Aebly, who has been a resident of this community for more than forty-nine years, died Saturday, July 9, 1920, at his home in Meadow township, after a brief illness of only three day's duration. His death was due to heart trouble brought on by overwork.

Funeral services, conducted by Rev. Joseph Jeffery, were held Monday afternoon from the M.E. church at Langdon and interment was made in Riverside cemetery in this city.

Henry Aebly was a native of Switzerland. He was born at New Glaus on June 7, 1842, and when a youth of 15 he left the land of the Alps to seek a new home and fortune in the new world. He received a common school education in his native language but was self-educated in English. He first located in Greene county, Wisconsin, where he worked by the month for several years.

When a young man of 20 Mr. Aebly was married to Portage county, Wisconsin, to Miss Harriet Rogers of Sullivan county, New York. In 1871 he came to Iowa and settled in Clay county where he secured a homestead claim of eighty acres, constituting the nucleus of his present fine farming property.

Mr. and Mrs. Aebly were the parents of six children, namely: Henry, George, Jake, Fred, Grace and Maggie. All the children excepting Grace, who married Wilbur Galbraith, are survivors. Mrs. Galbraith died some years ago leaving one child, Lillie, who has made her home with the Aebly's since that time.

Mrs. Aebly died about a year ago and Mr. Aebly has greatly mourned her loss.

Mr. Aebly was a self-made man and deserves great credit for what he accomplished while on earth. He was a man of strong character and convictions. He and his wife many years ago joined the Free Methodist church, but during late years attended the Methodist church at Langdon. He was a faithful worker and will be greatly missed in business circles and church work.

Mr. Aebly also leaves two brothers and two sisters to mourn his loss. One sister, Mrs. Durst, lives in Langdon.
