G.B. Martin, a well known resident of Clay county for nearly fifty years, died early Saturday morning, March 7, 1925, at his home in Spencer. His death was the result of a cancer. In the spring of 1922 his health began to fail, and he entered the hospital at Rochester, Minnesota, and while he seemed to be again resorted to perfect health, it only proved to be temporary and again in the spring of 1924 he returned to the hospital without meeting success.

Mr. Martin was a very industrious and successful farmer, but retired from farming in 1923 on account of his health. He was a man of ability and well liked by all who knew him. He was a devoted husband and a loving father.

Gordon Byron Martin, third son of the late George F. and Mary E. Martin, was born in Clay county, Iowa, October 1, 1877. On April 19, 1899, he was united in marriage to Miss Anna M. Runge. This was a very happy marriage and to this union were born three children, Theodore, Mildred and Neola.

Mr. Martin made a good fight and was very patient to the last, and was especially thankful to the old neighbors and friends who visited him.

He leaves to mourn his death his wife and children, Theodore Martin of Royal, Mrs. Mildred Struve of Rossie, and Miss Neola Martin, who is at home. He also leaves one grandchild, Gordon Struve, and five brothers and two sisters, John W. Martin of Royal, George L. Martin of Minneapolis, Minnesota, Harry G. Martin of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Ben L. Martin of Chicago, Illinois, Donald S. Martin of Worchester, Mass., Mrs. C.B. Imsland of Webster City and Mrs. Ray Baker of Madison, Wisconsin, and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held at the Cobb Funeral Home Tuesday, March 10, conducted by Rev. Wilson of Peterson. Interment was made in Riverside cemetery.
