John Wiesen, an early resident of Clay and Dickinson counties, died at the general hospital in Caldwell, Idaho, Friday, December 30, 1927, after an illness of several weeks. Shortly before his death he had rallied some, after receiving medical treatment in the Caldwell hospital, returning to his home in Caldwell and returning to the hospital a second time. During his early manhood he had poor health, too. At the time of his death he was 58 years, 3 months and 19 days of age.

The body was brought to Spencer last Saturday morning and services were held in the Sacred Heart church at 9:30 o'clock with the Rev. Father M.C. Wendl officiating. A sister, Mrs. J.F. Helberger of Bridgewater, South Dakota, accompanied the body to Spencer remaining here until Sunday morning. Burial was made in Riverside cemetery.

John Wiesen was born August 19, 1869, in Illinois, where he had lived until he was about twelve years of age when he came to iowa with his parents and located in Dickinson county. They lived in that county for only a few years moving to Clay county from there. His parents, who were well known to the early pioneer residents of the two counties, died before he moved from Clay county to Caldwell, Idaho, about thirty-eight years ago, residing there up until the time of his death. His father passed away while the family lived in Dickinson county and Mrs. Wiesen made her home here for thirty years.

During most of Mr. Wiesen's life, he engaged in farming. He was a member of the Catholic church at Caldwell.

Three brothers, James Wiesen of Seattle, Washington, Nicholas Wiesen of Ottawa, Kansas, and Charles Wiesen of Bridgewater, Kansas, and two sisters, Mrs. J.F. Helberger of Bridgewater, who accompanied the body to Spencer, and Mrs. A.M. Anderson of Millaca, Minnesota, are the surviving relatives.
