Lester Belles, who formerly lived at Fostoria, Iowa, died at the Mina Dickinson home near Emmetsburg Tuesday evening, January 3, 1928, at seven o'clock. He had been ill only a few days, his death resulting from cerebral meningitis. At the time of his death he was 29 years, 11 months and 17 days.

Mr. Belles had spent the Christmas vacation with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. J.W. Belles, at their home in Fostoria, and had left the Thursday prior to his death to return to his work in Emmetsburg seemingly in the best of health. Before reaching Emmetsburg he caught a severe cold and was given aid for the flu, but the following day it was learned from physicians that he was suffering from cerebral meningitis. His death occurred Tuesday afternoon.

A short beautiful service was held at the home of Mr. Dickinson at Emmetsburg and Masonic services were in charge of Mayor A.H. Avery of Spencer at Riverside cemetery where burial was made.

Mr. Belles was born January 16, 1898, at New Hall, Iowa. His father has been in the employ of the Milwaukee railway company and the family have lived in a number of places in Iowa in order to be with him. Two years were spent at Lamont, Iowa, after which the family moved across the line in Fayette county where they resided for six years engaging in farming. Later the family moved to Fostoria where Lester also lived, moving to Churdan, later, where he was employed as a clerk for the W.H. Dudly Mercantile company for nearly three years. From there he was with the Plymanth Gypsum company for a few months when he met with a serious accident, fracturing his skull. After a hard fight he recovered and had enjoyed good health until his recent illness.

He had been employed with Mina Dickinson near Emmetsburg sine November 1.

He is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. J.W. Belles, four sisters, Miss Lesea (?) Belles of Fostoria, Mrs. D.D. Squires of Arlington, Mrs. George W. Mills and Mrs. J.J. Dirksen, both of Spencer, and one brother, Vern Belles, of Fostoria.
