Emil Claussen, a resident of Clay county and Spencer for several years, died at the Clay county farm west of Spencer Sunday evening, May 4, following a stroke of paralysis. His death came very suddenly between eight and nine o'clock, Mr. Claussen having been up earlier in the evening for dinner. Following dinner he started to go about his usual chores out of doors when he complained of not feeling well. His death occurred a short time later.
Mr. Claussen had been in failing health, however, for the past two months. He was about 69 years of age. His birthplace was in Germanyu where he grew to young manhood, and when about nineteen years of age he came to United States to make his home.
Mr. Claussen was employed as a farm hand in and around Spencer for a good many years, and for the past few months he had made his home at the county farm assisting the caretaker with the work about the place. He was never married.
A sister residing in Davenport is believed to be the only surviving relative.
Interment was made Monday of this week in Riverside cemetery.
