Funeral services for J. Wamsley, mention of whose death appeared in our last issue, were held at the Methodist church Thursday afternoon by Rev. Hawks, of Dickens, under the auspices of the local G.A.R. post and interment was had in Riverside cemetery.
Jefferson Wamsley was born in Jessamon county, Kentucky, April 6, 1832. He spent his boyhood days in that state and at the age of twenty years moved to McLean county, Illinois where he enlisted in the 94th Volunteer Infantry, serving two years and two months when he was united in marriage to Mrs. Margaret Redd and four children were born to this union, three of whom survive, Mrs. James Widick, of Dorchester, Nebraska, Mrs. F.E. Brown of Earlham, Iowa and Claude, of Dickens.
Deceased had been a consistent member of the Methodist church for over fifty years and was a loyal member of the G.A.R.
The members of the family feel grateful to their friends and neighbors and the members of the Post for their many acts of kindness during the sickness and following the death of the beloved husband and father.
