Francis P. Sedlock
December 14, 1918 - August 4, 2012

Francis Paul Sedlock was born December 14, 1918 to Joseph and Mary Catherine (Toth) Sedlock in Bear Creek, IA, a coal mining settlement close to Ottumwa, IA. At a very early age, the family moved to Pershing, IA where Frank attended grade school and graduated in 1937 from Attica High School. After graduation, he worked for the Civilian Conservation Corps Camp for two years. In 1939, he moved to Buffalo, NY and worked for Curtis Wright Aircraft. From there, Frank attended x-ray and lab school. Upon his graduation, he worked in Saranac Lake, NY and Savanna, GA and then came to work for the Iowa State Health Department X-Ray Division until 1951.

On September 20, 1947, Frank was united in marriage to Althea Whade in Spencer, Iowa. To this union, four children were born: Sharman, Stephen, Elizabeth (Libby) and Gretchen. From Des Moines, Frank and Althea moved to Spencer, IA. Frank began his work in furniture retail. In 1960, he opened Sedlock Home Furnishings in Emmetsburg and Graettinger and relocated his family to Emmetsburg. He later worked in clothing retail in Spencer until his retirement.

Frank had many interests. He was an outstanding athlete in high school following local and national sports his entire life. He loved golfing, gardening, woodworking/carving. He enjoyed singing and acting in community theater and church choir. He enjoyed cards and teaching all of the grandchildren to play cribbage. He was a caring and loving husband and father.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Althea; his children: Sharman and Jim Haywood, Steve Sedlock, Libby and Ryan Behrens and Gretchen and Steve Sims; seven grandchildren: Anne Haywood Brennan, Katie Haywood Fitzpatrick, Amy Behrens, Daniel Behrens, Ellen Behrens, Allison Sims and Matthew Sims; one great-grandchild Emmet Brennan and many relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; nine brothers and sisters: Mary Anderson, John Sedlock, Lina Rebol, Joe Sedlock, Christina Box, Celia Haywood, Albert Sedlock, Edward Sedlock and George Sedlock.
