November 18, 2002Clifford Earnest Schurmann, the son of Frank and Anna Schurmann, was born October 15, 1920, in Graettinger, Iowa. He graduated from Graettinger High School in 1938. From October, 1942 until February, 1946, Cliff served in the Army Air Force.
On August 18, 1946, Cliff married Dorothy Jantz in Larned, Kansas. After finishing barber school in Sioux City, they moved to Spencer. Cliff owned and operated Cliff's Barber Shop on Grand Avenue until 1986.
Cliff was a member of the Grace United Methodist Church, Golden K Kiwanis and the American Legion. He enjoyed watching all sports activities, but particularly his grandchildren's. He helped start the little league in Spencer, where he also coached. Cliff looked forward each morning to joining his coffee group.
Mr. Schurmann passed away at the Clarkson Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska on November 18, 2002. He was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothy of Spencer; his son, David Schurmann and his wife, Sue of Barrington, Illinois; his daughter, Suzanne Hildebrand and her husband, Tom of Norwalk, Iowa; his grandchildren; Jill Schurmann Bates and her husband, Sean of Aurora, Illinios, Mike Schurmann of Boulder, Colorado, Sara Hildebrand of Omaha, Nebraska and Anne Hildebrand of Norwalk, Iowa; step grandchildren; Tara Eckert and her husband, Bill of McHenry, Illinios and Ben VonFeldt of Barrington, Illinios; other relatives and many friends.
Services were held on Friday, November 22, 2002 at the Warner Chapel, Spencer, Iowa..
