Edward James Evans, pioneer resident of this community passed peacefully away at his home in Lake township at eleven o'clock Friday morning. He had been ill for the past two years and his death was due to pernicious anemia.

He was born May 4, 1872, at Kanosha, Wisconsin. He came to Iowa with his parents and in 1886 located on a farm just north of the Two Minute farm and lived there about three years then bought the home which he resided upon in Lake township. He was united in marriage to Miss Algy Marcott on January 1, 1896. To them were born three sons, all living, George Alford of Terril, Lester Edward and Fred Lloyd of Dickens, two daughters, one living, Marie Caroline, at home. Besides his wife and four children he leaves to mourn his death his sisters, Mrs. Kindlespire of Frederick, S.D., Mrs. Charles Kindlespire of Ispach, S.D., Mrs. Addie Mullenbeck of Kanosha, Wisc., and Mrs. Bessie Greenwahl of Hiland Park, Chicago.

Mr. Evans was serving his first term as county supervisor. He was township clerk thirteen years and was on the school board for twenty-one years, taking his father's place. Mr. Evans was a man upright and honest in his dealing with those he came in contact with and was held in high regard by all who knew him. He was broadminded and took an interest in the affairs of the day.

Funeral services were conducted Tuesday afternoon, July 8, 1924, at Dickens by Rev. Carey. Interment was made in Dickens cemetery.
