William J. Edwards, 1830-1906

The funeral of W.J. Edwards, who lived northeast of Dickens, and who was familiarly known as Grandpa Edwards, was held Friday at 2 p.m. at the M.E. church. Ed Edwards of Story county, Iowa and Arthur Edwards were present at the funeral of their father. Mr. Edwards died Tuesday of pneumonia.

W. J. Edwards was born in Shropshire, England, June 23, 1830, and died at his residence northeast of Dickens, on April 3, 1906, aged 75 years, 9 months, and 11 days. He was married to Miss Ann Powell at Dudley, Staffordshire, England, in 1852, and moved to this country in 1867 and settled near Union Grove, Wisconsin where they lived for about 19 years, then moved to Clay county, Iowa, and have since resided near Dickens, where they have made many friends.

Their union was blessed with thirteen children, and there is left to mourn his loss a loving wife and seven children. W.B. Edwards, Miss A.D. Edwards, Mrs. S.L. Pickle, and Joe Edwards of Dickens, A.J. Edwards of Napoleon, N. D., and E.C. Edwards of Williamsburg, Iowa, and Mrs. S.A. Alyer of Benson, Minnesota.

He was a kind and loving husband and father, a good neighbor and a communicant of the Church of England which he always respected.
