Charles W. Culver, age 78 years, a pioneer of Dickens and Clay county, died Saturday evening, May 23, at his home in Seattle, Wash., where he had lived for the past seven years. Death, which was caused from a stroke of paralysis, followed a lingering illness.
The body was brought to Dickens this morning, Thursday, and funeral rites, in charge of the Jones funeral home, Spencer, were held from the Methodist church at Dickens this afternoon at 2 o'clock. Burial was in the Dickens cemetery.
Charles W. Culver was born on Sept. 8, 1852. When a young man he homesteaded near Dickens, Ia. During his farm career he was in charge of the mail route in Dickens for almost twenty years. About ten years ago, Mr. Culver retired from active farm life and left Dickens vicinity and went west. He located in Seattle seven year ago, where he had since resided.
Mr. Culver is survived by his wife, four sons, Neal Culver of Sutton, N.D., Charles P. Culver of Fuehow, China, Rev. Harry Culver of Mount Vernon, Ia., and Edwin M. Culver of Cedar Falls; one daughter, Mrs. Raymond Jones (Stella Culver) of Alsace, Sask., Canada; one grandson, Roy C. Culver, of Spencer and a sister-in-law, Mrs. Rhoda Culver, of Spencer, besides other relatives and a large circle of friends.
