Well Known Dickens Young Man Died in Spencer Friday From Pneumonia--Funeral Sunday
Dickens, Jan. 29--Burton Lewis Alger, eldest son of Lewis and Nora Alger of South Dickens, died at the Spencer Hospital at 6:10 a.m. on Friday, January 24, from pneumonia resulting from Spanish Influenza. Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at 1:00 o'clock at the home, conducted by Rev. A. Dyson of the Dickens M.E. church. Interment was made in the Dickens cemetery. Deceased was born in Logan township, Clay county, on January 9, 1898. He received his education at the Lake Center school house and since his school days has assisted his parents with their farm work. He was only permitted to grow into young manhood when the hand of death laid its hold upon him and took his spirit into eternity. He leaves to mourn his loss his father and mother, five brothers: William, Robert, Loris, Elmo and Edward, and one sister, May, and Miss Hika Reeverts to whom he was shortly to have been married.
