Leo Alexander

Leo Alexander, age 92, of Iowa Falls, Iowa and formerly of Webb, Iowa, died April 27, 2010 at the Heritage Care Center in Iowa Falls.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 1, 2010 at 10:30 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Webb.

Burial will be in the Garfield Township Cemetery in Webb. The Sliefert Funeral Home in Sioux Rapids is in charge of the arrangements.

Albert Leo Alexander, the son of Algie and Audra (Ballah) Alexander, was born in Danville, Illinois, on August 14, 1917. At a very early age, Leo moved with his family to the Rembrandt and Greenville areas. The family then came to the Webb vicinity where Leo spent his youth and received his education at the Garfield Township School. He was a member of the Class of 1935 Garfield Township School.

Following graduation he served as the school janitor and bus driver and also worked for area farmers.

Leo was united in marriage to Mary Ann Woodford on February 15, 1941, in Spencer, Iowa, and this couple was blessed with three children: Leslie, Dean, and Carol Ann.

Leo and Mary Ann began their farming vocation in 1941 and were engaged in farming until their retirement in 1982. They had moved into the town of Webb in 1980 and lived there until moving to The Highlands in Spencer, Iowa, in 2001.

Mary Ann passed away on November 10, 2007, and at that time Leo relocated to Iowa Falls where he resided at the Heritage Care Center.

Leo was a member of the Webb United Methodist Church and was a member of the Senior Kiwanis Club in Spencer while living there.

Leo had a passion for baseball and he both played and coached the town’s baseball team for many years. He also enjoyed pitching horseshoes, fishing, horses, reading, and in later years, he spent a lot of time studying his Bible. Leo enjoyed mowing the Clay County fairgrounds for 10 years. He and Mary Ann traveled to Arkansas for 22 years and enjoyed spending their winter months there.

Those who will always love, honor, and cherish his memory include his children: Les and Linda Alexander of Iowa Falls, Iowa; Dean and Janice Alexander of Springdale, Arkansas; and Carol Ann and Bill Bellinghausen of Charlotte, North Carolina; his grandchildren: Brett Alexander; Jodi Carosone; Jason Alexander; Steve Alexander; Kristin Winters; Brad Alexander; Alexia Bellinghausen; and Andrea Bellinghausen; his great grandchildren: Alexander and Edward Carosone; Samuel and Erin Alexander; Zachary, Sarah, and Hannah Winters; Luke and Evan Alexander; and Kalyne and Kaiden Hibbs; two brothers: Harold Alexander of Pensacola, Florida; and Estel Alexander of Hubbard, Iowa; two sisters: Mildred Miller of Fort Dodge, Iowa; and Hazel Mills of Riverton, Wyoming; other extended family and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Mary Ann; an infant son, John; his brother, Russell; and his sister, Ruth Farlow.

Interment in Garfield Township cemetery
