The many friends of Mrs. Ane Mortensen were shocked to hear of her death which occurred at her home on East Fifth street at two-thirty o'clock Friday afternoon, Jan. 4. Mrs. Mortensen was eighty-two years of age but had always been in fairly good health. On New Years day she became ill but was up again on Jan. 2. No one thought her condition critical and when she was taken ill again on Friday it did not seem to those about her as serious as it proved to be. She died at two thirty that afternoon as quietly as if she was taking only a short nap.

Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Gertsen, pastor of the Danish Lutheran church at two 'clock at the residence and at two thirty o'clock at the church. The pall bearers were Ole Rasmussen, Andrew Anderson, P.M. Peterson, F. Byggere, N.C. Anderson and A. Jespersen. Burial was made in Riverside cemetery.

Mrs. Ane Margrethe Mortensen was born in Nakskov, Lolland, Denmark, on Feb. 19, 1842. There she was baptized and confirmed in her Lutheran faith and spent her girlhood days in that country. She was married to Mr. Christ Mortensen and in 1883 they emigrated to this country and took up their residence in Lyons, Michigan, where they lived about two years. After that they lived in Chicago for a short time and later moved to Stoughton, Wis., and made their home there for two years and a half. They left Stoughton in 1888 for Clay county and located near Royal where Mr. Mortensen died in 1891. In 1901 Mrs. Mortensen moved to Spencer and had made her home on East Fifth street until her death.

Mrs. Mortensen became the mother of five children. Two daughters, Mrs. M.P. Larsen and Mrs. Christ Hansen both of this city and one son, M.E. Mortensen, of Royal are left to mourn their great loss with thirteen grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
