Mrs. Julia Austin died in the hospital at Cherokee Sunday, February 22, 1920, at six o'clock in the morning. Senility debility is given as the cause of death. Mrs. Austin was 81 years of age. She formerly lived at Spencer, and is well known here. She was the wife of the late William H. Austin, who came to Spencer a little over eighteen years ago. They resided at Ninth and Bender avenue until Mr. Austin's death, which occurred October 29, 1917. After that time Mrs. Austin made her home with Rev. and Mrs. A.M. Leichliter, northeast of Spencer, until her removal to Cherokee the latter part of last July.

Julia Halverson was born at Quinhera, Norway, November 15, 1838. She came to America soon after the close of the War of the Rebellion and came directly to Clinton county, Iowa, where she lived for a time, going from there to Cedar Rapids, where she became employed in the home of Hon. George Green. It was while living in Mr. Green's home that she became acquainted with William H. Austin, who was also in the employ of Mr. Green. On January 1, 1870, Mr. Austin and Miss Halverson were united in marriage in the Green home.

In 1871 or 1872 they came to Clay county, and Mr. Austin homesteaded in Meadow township, where they lived for about twenty-five years. They then sold out and went to Fort Dodge, where after a short stay they removed to Story City, where they resided five years. They then came to Spencer, and continued to live happily together here until Mr. Austin's death in 1917.

To Mr. and Mrs. Austin were born one daughter and two sons, all of whom died in childhood.

In early life Mrs. Austin joined the Lutheran church and was an adherent of that faith to the time of her death but for many years she was nota member of any church although in her life she was deeply religious.

Soon after her own home was broken up she went to the home of Rev. Leichliter and wife, where she was shown every consideration, although not a relative, and where she remained until her health became so bad it was thought best to take her to Cherokee.

Funeral services will be held at the Cobb Undertaking parlors today (Thursday) at 3:30 p.m., conducted by the Rev. E. Merle Adams, pastor of the First Congregational church of Spencer. Interment will be by the side of her husband in Riverside cemetery.
