DEATH OF H.B. PAIGE

A Pioneer Settler and Old Soldier Passed Away Last Week

One of Spencer's oldest citizens died last Wednesday afternoon after and illness of some time. H.B. Paige was born in Orange county, Vermont, June 20, 1840. He lived in the New England country his early life. When the call was issued for volunteers in 1861 Mr. Paige enlisted in Co. K, 7th New Hampshire volunteer infantry, and served until June 5th, 1863, when he was honorably discharged. He was married to Miss Kate Symington, March 5, 1872 and to them three children were born, all living, Charles F. who lives at Mitchell, South Dakota, Mrs. Mary K. Carvey of Spencer and Mrs. Florence E. Allyn who lives in the west.

Mr. Paige moved to Clay County about forty years ago and followed various occupations. He teamed for a number of years, was in the ice business, and was always a man who found something to occupy his time.

Mr. Paige has been a member of Annett Post, G.A.R. since 1884, and took an active interest in all matters pertaining to the old soldier. He was also a member of Evening Shade lodge, No. 312, A.F. & A.M., having been a member for nearly a quarter of a century.

Mr. Paige leaves besides his wife and children, three sisters, Mrs. E.D. Chamberlain of this place, and Mesdames Cora and Mary Larned of Wells River, Vermont, and a brother, Chas. Paige of Wells River, Vermont.

The funeral was held last Friday at two o'clock the sermon being preached by Rev. E.N. Spafford, pastor of the Christian church, the burial services was by the Masonic lodge. Interment was in Riverside cemetery.
