John Hummel Dead

John Hummel died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Henry Vollmer, south of Spencer last Saturday morning.

Mr. Hummel was born in Bayreuth, Bavaria, Germany, March 7, 1828. He lived in Germany until 1853 when he came to America, and in the same year was married in New York City to Miss Margaret Hagen. To this union four children were born, two girls and two boys, one daughter being dead. The children living are Andrew and Henry Hummel and Mrs. Henry Vollmer. They lived in Illinois for a number of years and in 1891 came to Clay county where they lived since. Mrs. Hummel died in 1902.

Mr. Hummel was a member of the Lutheran Evangelical church. He was a splendid man, industrious, frugal and upright. He was a good kind neighbor and well liked and respected by all who knew him.

The funeral was held from the home of his daughter, Mrs. Vollmer, and the services were conducted by Rev. Hoskins of Greenville. The interment was in Riverside cemetery.
