Following his discharge they moved to Spencer. David was employed by Graham Tire in Spencer while attending Iowa Lakes Community College. David graduated with a degree in Criminal Justice. He then went on to work as a law enforcement officer in Ayrshire, IA, and a security guard at Shopko in Spencer.

In his free time, David enjoyed chess, motorcycles, Hawkeye football, softball, and weightlifting, but most of all David was known for his sense of humor and loved being around his children and grandchildren.
