James (Jim) Michael Sterling, the son of Harry and Irene (Crabtree) Sterling, was born September 15, 1946, in Chicago, IL. He received his early education and graduated from High School in Chicago.

Following his schooling, Jim entered the U.S. Military serving with the Army during the Vietnam War. He was a P.O.W. for 6 months.

After his Honorable Discharge, he married Janis Sterling and to this union two children were born.

On March 3, 1989, Jim married Linda Hestbech in Spencer, IA.

For the past 20 years, Jim served as manager for Shoppers Supply. Jim was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Spencer where he was a 4th Degree Knight of Columbus. He was also involved in A.A., Boy Scouts and helping with fundraisers in the community. In his spare time, Jim enjoyed fishing, golfing and attending his boys ball games.

Jim passed away on November 15, 2007 at the Spencer Hospital at the age of 61. He is preceded in death by his parents; 2 sisters: Berverly Spaur and Roberta Goday; brother-in-law, Ansley Thomas and father-in-law, Carl Hestbech.

He is survived by his wife, Linda Sterling of Spencer; his children: Scott Sterling and his wife, Sonya of Blaine, MN, Amy Trebino and her husband, John of Clearwater, FL, and Michael and Matthew Sterling both at home; 2 grandchildren: Ethan and Grant Sterling; his sister, Kathy Thomas of Spencer, IA; his mother-in-law, Anne Hestbech of Sioux City, IA; other relatives and many friends.
