George L. Mallory, the son of Robert Holloway
and Elizabeth (Heafer) Mallory, was born Aug. 14, 1919, in Henderson, Ky. His childhood years were spent in the Henderson area, where he received his early education. He graduated from Weaverton High School in Henderson in 1937. In 1943 he entered the United States Army and attained the rank of Staff Sergeant with the 30th Engineer Battalion, serving in the American, EAME and Asiastic-Pacific Theaters. He was honorably discharged in 1946 and moved to Keokuk, Iowa.

On June 21, 1947, he married Joanne Tyus at Druid Hills Methodist Church in Atlanta. The couple resided in Ames until he graduated from Iowa State College in 1950 with a Bachelor of Science degree in animal husbandry.

Later that year, the couple moved to Spencer where George was employed by Prudential in its mortgage loan and real estate department. He later formed his own real estate brokerage, specializing in farm real estate sales until his retirement in 1984. George also served on the Clay County Board of Supervisors from 1972 to 1976. He was a long-time member of the Grace United Methodist Church.

Although the Mallorys made their home in Spencer, they spent many winters in Rockport, Texas, where they could pursue their joy of birding along the Gulf Coast. George also enjoyed photography and traveling throughout the United States and Canada.

George passed away on March 20, 2007 at the Spencer Hospital in Spencer at the age of 87. He was preceded in death by his wife, Joanne; his parents; a step-father, Guy Otis Cook; and a sister, Carolyn H. Mallory. He is survived by his daughter and her husband, Patricia and John W. Robidoux of Lincoln, Neb.; a grandson and his wife, Bryon and Paula Robidoux of Overland Park, Kan.; a greatgranddaughter, Riley JoAnne Robidoux of Overland Park, Kan., and many relatives and friends.
