Sydney Ruth Ann VerMeer, the daughter of Sidney & Gleva Hammer, was born February 24, 1945 in Sioux Falls, SD. Her early years were spent in Hills, MN, and after moving to Hawaii at the age of five, where she attended Kindergarten, her family returned to Hills, MN, where she continued her education. When she was a young child, her father was tragically killed in a tractor accident.

Sydney married Gerald VerMeer on November 12, 1965 in Hills, MN and their children are: Tammy, Teresa, Traci, Toni and Kelli. After raising her children, she went to work as a secretary for Northwest Moving and Storage and later for Dohrn Transfer.

She was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church in Spencer. Sydney enjoyed bowling, NASCAR racing, bingo, fishing, watching sports, watching the Weather Channel, tending to her animals and most of all enjoyed spending time with her family.

Sydney passed away at Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City, Iowa on Thursday, October 26, 2006 at the age of 61. She was preceded in death by her father, Dale Jacobson and a son-in-law, Greg Quillin.

She is survived by her mother, Gleva Jacobson of Estherville, IA; her daughters: Tammy and her husband, Phil Rosacker of Spencer, Teresa & her husband, Joe Deeter of Dumas, TX, Traci & her husband, Mike Hynes of Spencer, Toni Quillin of Spencer and Kelli & her husband, Chester Yoes of Dickens, IA; 10 grandchildren; 1 great grandchild; two sisters: Susan & her fiance, Dan Elwood of Estherville, IA, Jane and her husband, Tom Gilbert of Sioux City, IA; one brother, Timothy and his wife, Rita Jacobson of Sioux City, IA; many nieces and nephews; other relatives and many friends.
