Langdon man's Funeral Is Held Here Wednesday

Funeral services took place Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the Cobb funeral chapel in Spencer for Craven E. Belshe, 39, prominent Langdon resident and former depot agen here, who passed away at his home here Saturday, April 4, at 6:30 p.m.

Burial was made in Riverside cemetery.

Craven Evans Belshe was born near Mexico, Mo., the only child of Louise E. Belshe and the late John Belshe, and at his death was 39 years, 10 months and 24 days old. When he was a small child the family moved to Martinsburg, Mo., where Mr. Belshe attended the public schools and grew to manhood.

Railroader

At the age of 18 years, Mr. Belshe's father passed away suddently, leaving him with the care of his mother.

He went to business college in Chillicothe, Mo., taking a course in railroad telegraphy. His first position was at Macon, Mo., and in the year 1920 he moved to Iowa, locating at Humboldt. His mother came a year later to make her home with him.

At Humboldt Mr. Belshe was night telegrapher for five years. In 1925 he and his mother moved to Langdon where Mr. Belshe accepted the position as M. and St. L. depot agent.

Wed at Primghar

It was here Mr. Belshe met and later married Bertha E. Stanz, the ceremony being performed October 18, 1926, at Primghar. To this union were born two children, John Craven, 8, and Charlotte Louise, 4.

Mr. Belshe's death came suddenly and is a great shock to the family and community. He had been ill for seven months following an accident in which he received a fractured hip bone, when thrown from a wagon when its team ran away. Care was given him at the Spencer hospital and the University hospital at Iowa City, but his condition was without remedy.

His early passing leaves an unforgettable vacancy in the family circle. He loved his home and family, who with friends and neighbors cared for him tenderly through his last illness.

Relatives Remaining

Surviving are Mrs. Belshe and two children; Mr. Belshe's mother, who lived with her son and family; in addition to a host of other relatives and friends.
