A Good Man Gone
In the death of Peter Bowers this community lost one of its most upright citizens.
Peter Bowers was born in Sheboygan county, Wisconsin, January 17, 1852, and died at his home on west Fourth street, October 14, 1911.
Mr. Bowers resided in Wisconsin until 1883 when he came to Clay county, and lived near Greenville, making his home with his brother, John, now deceased. On July 10, 1896, he was united in marriage to Mrs. Jane Goldsworthy, who still survives him. They have made their home in Spencer since their marriage.
Mr. Bowers leaves a wife, sister, nieces and nephews and a large circle of personal friends.
It was our good privilege to be intimately acquainted with Peter Bowers, and we always found him a warm hearted and upright man. His business dealings were always upright, and his neighbors all speak of him in the highest terms. Mr. Bowers was a very quiet and unassuming man, but he was the sort that made and held friends. He managed to accumulate enough of this world's goods so that he could fully enjoy life without hardships.
The funeral was held from the home Monday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock, the services being conducted by Rev O. M. Bond, pastor of the M.E. church and the interment was in Riverside cemetery. The funeral was well attended, many coming from Greenville, his former home.
