GASOLINE STOVE EXPLOSION FATAL
BABY DAUGHTER OF MR. AND MRS. H. A. ADAMS DIES FROM INJURIES
SISTER TERRIBLY BURNED
Funeral of Little Victim Held on Monday, Other Child Will Probably Recover
Betty Jane, twenty-two-months old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. H. A. Adams, is dead, and her five year old sister, Helen, is dangerously and painfully burned and may be scarred for life, as the result of a gasoline stove explosion in the Adams home, 93 East Park avenue, about six o'clock last Thursday evening.
Only the two little children and their seventeen year old sister, Grace, were in the house when the accident occurred. Mr. Adams was working on a carpenter job south of Rossie, and Mrs. Adams was attending the Degree of Honor banquet at the Tangney.
Helen and Betty Jane were playing in a tub of water in front of the stove, the baby undressed. Grace was in the next room when the stove blew up. She screamed for help, and some men from the cement plant, who were passing by, ran in and got the children out of the burning room and put out the fire.
The little victims were given medical attention as soon at doctors could be reached. Baby Jane died early Saturday morning. Helen's hair was burned off, and her arms, back, neck and head were badly burned. She was out of bed Monday, and it was believed that she would recover if no serious complications set in.
Funeral services for Betty Jane were held at the Adams home at two o'clock at the Baptist church at 2:30 Monday afternoon. The services were conducted by Rev. J. P. Thomas. Burial was in Riverside.
