Maria Powell was born at Oscaloosa, Iowa, December 3, 1853 and lived at that place up to the time of her marriage to Mr. J. O. Hodgin about thirty two years ago when she came to this community and has resided here up to the time of her death which occurred February 17. The funeral was held from the home conducted by Rev. 0. M. Bond, February 19, interment being made in Riverside cemetery.

Mrs. Hodgin was a true Christian woman and was a birthright member of the Friends church. She was a woman who always was willing and eager to help wherever most needed. The past few years her health has not permitted her to get out much but her family always found her to be the same kind and thoughtful wife and mother. She leaves a usband and one son to mourn her loss, who have the sincere sympathy of the entire community.
