Died in Iowa City Hospital

The remains of Lew Sheldon, a former resident of this county who passed away Friday night in a hospital at Iowa City following an operation for the removal of his eye, arrived in this city Saturday evening and were taken to the Redfield & Cobb undertaking parlors and on Tuesday were removed to the Methodist church from which place the funeral was held that afternoon at 1 o'clock. Services were conducted by Rev. Watkins, of Superior, Iowa, and the remains were laid to rest in Riverside cemetery.

Mr. Sheldon was born at Manchchester, Iowa, on August 14, 1867, and on January 10, 1900, he was united in marriage to Miss Dollie Jackson, a daughter of Mrs. Ellen Jackson of Meadow township. They began their married life on the Varney farm in Lake township and resided there until about three years ago when they moved to near Superior. Of late they have been residing in Estherville. About four years ago Mr. Sheldon got a piece of hay in his right eye and it is supposed some infection took place at the same time which was never entirely eradicated and gradually developed into blood poison. About ten days ago he was taken to the hospital at Iowa City and the eye removed, but the poison had so effected his entire system that he passed away just a week after the operation.

He is survived by his widow and two children, Esther and Lester. The deceased was a kind hearted man, his life's work was that of tilling the soil and he lived an honest and upright Christian life. Deep sympathy is extended the bereaved ones. He was a brother-in-law of Mrs. E. Erickson of this city.
