Funeral services for Marvin Heikens, 70, of Spencer will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, October 5, 2005 in Grace United Methodist Church at Spencer. Rev. Gary Nims will officiate the services.

Marvin passed away Saturday, October 1, 2005, at Community Memorial Health Center at Hartley.

Honorary Casket Bearers will include all of his children and grand children

Casket Bearers; Robert Rasch, Bill Heikens, Paul Behrens, Lynden Heikens, Lance Heikens, Tim Heikens, Jason Heikens and Steve Heikens

Military services will be conducted by the American Legion, Glen Pederson Post 1, at Spencer.

Burial will take place in Summit Township Cemetery at Spencer.

Marvin Dale Heikens, the son of Merle and Gertie (Eeten) Heikens, was born on April 18, 1935, on the family farm. He spent his lifetime on the family farm which he loved and cared for. He graduated from Spencer High School. Following graduation, he served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict.

On August 21, 1960, he was united in marriage to Effie Umbrell at the Grace United Methodist Church in Spencer. They made their home on the family farm where they raised their family. Marv was very much involved in the agriculture related activities. Marv rode in a hot air balloon from the Clay County Fair over his farm, like to ride snowmobiles, motorcycles and most of all enjoyed his combines.

Farming was always Marv's enjoyment, he also worked at Stutter's Implement and Nielson and Moding Construction. He worked under Sheriff Boyd Bushey and Phil Nelson as a special deputy and also worked for many years-weekends and holidays-for the City of Okoboji Police. He was on the Search and Rescue unit and was the Chief of Police for the Clay County Fair for many years. Marve helped organize the Clay County Rural Water Systen and served on the board for three terms. He was a trustee for Summit Township and was President of the Clay County Snow Brone's. Marve also served as President of the Iowa State Snowmobile Association.

His parents preceded him in death.

Marv is survived by his wife, Effie of 45 years; five children and their spouses; Debora and Bob Rasch of Norco, California, Micheal and Allyn Heikens of Everly, Kristine and Paul Behrens of Spencer, Douglas Heikens of Spencer and Justin and Laura Heikens of Spencer; and 12 grandchildren.

Warner Funeral Home at Spencer is in charge of arrangements.
